Join the fight to STOMP Out Hunger

STOMP makes its triumphant return to Kansas City at the Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts on April 5 – 7.  This will mark the first time that STOMP has appeared at the Kauffman.  The return of the percussive hit also brings some new surprises, with some sections of the show now updated and restructured and the addition of two new full-scale routines, utilizing props like tractor tire inner tubes and paint cans. The show will also include all the favorite routines including everything but conventional percussion instruments – matchboxes, wooden poles, brooms, garbage cans, Zippo lighters, hubcaps – to fill the stage with magnificent rhythms.  The show retains all of its humor and audience participation in a fun-filled performance sure to please all ages.

Take a glimpse here:

Recycle Your Christmas Tree in Johnson County

The time is here to take down the holiday decor.

Me and my husband have put up a live Christmas tree every year for the last 18 years.  The kids and I are Jewish and Daddy’s Christmas tree is one tradition that we get so much joy out of.
It always saddens me to see the needles start to drop off.  But as much of a tradition it has become in our home to decorate the tree, it is also a tradition to drag the tree out of the house, with needles flying everywhere, usually the tree somehow getting stuck on the top chain of the door, or having the water stand topple over.  Then comes the fun of strapping it to the car and bringing it to a local preserve for mulching and recycling.
Johnson County makes it very easy to recycle your tree.  There are several locations to choose from:
Shawnee Mission Park Marina (Shawnee)
Heritage Park Marina (Olathe)
Kill Creek Marina (Olathe)

Leawood Parks & Rec:

Leawood City Park

Ironwoods Park

Mill Creek (residents only)
Young’s Park
Indian Creek Rec Center
Quivira Park
Overland Park Arboretum & Botanical Gardens

Best wishes for a happy & healthy new year!

First 100 people through the door at 11 a.m. win free pizza

Papa Murphy’s Take ‘N’ Bake Pizza, the country’s largest and fastest growing take ‘n’ bake pizza chain, will open its first store serving Roeland Park at 4986 Roe Blvd. this Friday, Sept. 14.

To celebrate the store opening, Papa Murphy’s will give the first 100 people through the door at 11 a.m. a free family size pepperoni pizza loaded with 80 slices of premium pepperoni. Additionally, customers can enter to win free pizza for a year by visiting the Kansas City Papa Murphy’s Facebook page, clicking on the “Here We Grow Again” tab and filling out the online submission form. The new Roeland Park store continues Papa Murphy’s long-standing commitment to the Kansas City community and an official Grand Opening celebration is being planned for October.

“For those unfamiliar with the take ‘n’ bake concept, it’s pizza made fresh in front of you that you take home to bake in your oven so you can enjoy it piping hot whenever you want it,” said Brad Flood, co-owner of the new Roeland Park Papa Murphy’s store. “See for yourself and watch the take ‘N’ bake revolution in action by visiting us this Friday, Sept. 14.”

Papa Murphy’s customers decide which fresh ingredients they want to top their pizza with. The dough is prepared daily in the stores using high protein wheat flour. Pizzas feature 100 percent all-natural, whole-milk cheeses. Real meat toppings, with no fillers, include premium salami, pepperoni, Italian sausage and ground beef. Other fresh toppings including Roma tomatoes, whole mushrooms, green peppers and onions sliced and diced in store daily.

This is the 31st Papa Murphy’s location in the Kansas City metro area and the 10th store serving Johnson County, Kansas. With more than 1,300 stores in 37 states and Canada, Papa Murphy’s is widely acknowledged by consumers for excellence in variety, service, convenience and an abundance of high-quality ingredients for a low price. The company was ranked the “#1 Rated Pizza Chain” in the U.S. for a second consecutive year by consumers on Zagat’s Annual Fast Food Survey.
